18 year old monk sets light to himself and dies

Kalsang Wangdu set light to himself on 29 February 2016 in Nyarong County, Kardze, near his monastery, Retsokha Aryaling. He died from his injuries. Radio Free Asia quoted a Tibetan source as saying “[While he burned], he called out for Tibet’s complete independence”. RFA reported that witnesses tried to intervene with the intention of taking him to Chengdu (the Sichuan capital) for treatment.
