Tenzin Phuntsok set himself on fire in Chamdo and was the first such protest to take place in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Tenzin Phuntsok was a former monk and he was since married with two sons and a daughter.

Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy reported that Tenzin Phuntsog died at Chamdo Hospital on 6 December 2011.
